In May 2002 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian Pictures, which included the work Children on a bank of a tranquil river, a cottage beyond by Alfred Walter Williams. The price achieved of GBP 3,525.00 (€ 5,520.20) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Children on a bank of a tranquil river, a cottage beyond is the most expensive artwork by Alfred Walter Williams that we have observed at auctions so far.
