In November 2001 Christies in Melbourne held the auction AUSTRALIAN & INTERNATIONAL PAINTINGS, which included the work Ghost Gum Tree by Albert Namatjira. The »bidding war« ended at AUD 11,162.50 (€ 6,483.42), 59% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Albert Namatjira have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Mt Sonder, MacDonnell Ranges in April this year with an auction result of AUD 92,250.00 (€ 55,291.51).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 59 % übertroffen
Im November 2001 führte Christies in Melbourne die Auktion AUSTRALIAN & INTERNATIONAL PAINTINGS durch, in der auch die Arbeit Ghost Gum Tree von Albert Namatjira zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von AUD 11.162,50 (€ 6.483,42) und damit 59% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Albert Namatjira auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Mt Sonder, MacDonnell Ranges im April diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von AUD 92.250,00 (€ 55.291,51).
