(1845-1932) Rasselas exploring the subterranean river signed 'Albert Goodwin' (lower left) and inscribed 'Rassellas [ sic ] exploring the Subterranean River/ "The World is not yet exhausted:/ let me see something tomorrow I never saw before."' (on artist's mount, upper left and lower right) pencil, watercolour, bodycolour and oil heightened with gum arabic on board, on the artist's original mount 9 5 ⁄ 8 x 13 1 ⁄ 4 in. (24.5 x 33.5 cm.)
Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Rasselas exploring the subterranean river by Albert Goodwin was auctioned at Christies in London in July last year. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 8,190.00 (€ 9,780.31). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Albert Goodwin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A View of Benares From The Ganga River With The Great Mosque of Auranzeb, The Vishwanath Temple And Manikarnika Ghat Behind in April 2006 with an auction result of USD 192,000.00 (€ 152,091.25).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Rasselas exploring the subterranean river von Albert Goodwin kam im Juli letzten Jahres bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 8.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 8.190,00 (€ 9.780,31) einen neuen Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Albert Goodwin erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A View of Benares From The Ganga River With The Great Mosque of Auranzeb, The Vishwanath Temple And Manikarnika Ghat Behind im April 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 192.000,00 (€ 152.091,25).
