Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A panorama of Rome with the Pantheon, seen across the Tiber from the Janiculum by Adriaen van Nieulandt was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 11,250.00 (€ 12,855.09). Admittedly, works by Adriaen van Nieulandt have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Tulips, roses, Turk's cap lilies, columbines, carnations and other flowers in a ceramic vase, with tulips in a glass vase, on a wooden ledge, with a peacock butterfly, a grasshopper and a lizard in December 2011 with an auction result of GBP 67,250.00 (€ 80,541.37).
