This artwork by Richard Brydges Beechey achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2007. In the Maritime & Naval Battles (Pictures) auction, the work His Majesty's frigate Fisgard, Captain T. Byam Martin, on a lee shore weathering Ushant at 8.00 a.m. on 16th January 1801, whilst stationed off the French coast as part of Sir John Borlase Warren's fleet sold for GBP 7,200.00 (€ 10,595.29) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,500.00. Admittedly, works by Richard Brydges Beechey have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work View Of Part Of Dublin Bay, From The Rocks Between Salthill And Seapoint Stations in May 2010 with an auction result of GBP 43,250.00 (€ 50,673.38).
