Just 37 paintings are known by Jan Vermeer: The œuvre of the painter is thus extremely small. The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam is now showing 23 of them in its Vermeer exhibition. Never before have so many works by the Dutch artist been united in one exhibition. The works on loan come from all over the world and some of them are on public display in the Netherlands for the first time ever. From February 10 to June 4, 2023, the Rijksmuseum will give its public this unique opportunity. Parallel to the show, visitors can view the online exhibition Closer to Johannes Vermeer, which guides them through the life and work of the famous painter.

Jan, or Johannes Vermeer, lived from 1632 to 1675, the Golden Age of Dutch painting. He worked in Delft and is known for his genre paintings and interior scenes. Vermeer was a pioneer in new methods of design: using balanced divisions of space, he depicted complex scenes in a simplified manner. He was also remembered for his excellent observation of light and shadow effects, which made his paintings look deceptively real.Art.Salon

Till Schermer

Is our personality just an illusion? Till Schermer's paintings open up a new perspective on the fragmented human psyche. In intense, sometimes disturbing images, the artist presents the protagonists of our mental society - perhaps the start of an adventure for one's own mind.
