Consuming as a path to perfect health and inner peace: with her 10-part video series Whispering Pines, Shana Moulton follows her alter-ego Cynthia on her navigation through the modern world. Moulton shows the surreal in 21st century life, which takes place between an infinite number of consumer goods. The videos focus primarily on the domestic environment. Moulton focuses on the enigmatic and the monstrous in objects that we all encounter every day and yet to which we pay little attention. Moulton's latest work is an extension of her Whispering Pines series (2002-2010): Meta/Physical Therapy can be seen from February 17 in the exhibition of the same name at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Moulton transforms the Kravis Studio into an expression of Cynthia's inner life. Moulton complements the eight-channel video work with live performances about ageing and health and illness in middle age. The exhibition runs until April 21.

Shana Moulton (*1976) comes from California and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York City. It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.
