Covering arouses curiosity: it raises expectations and questions that urgently need to be answered. Not knowing what is completely or partially concealed is difficult for many people to bear. Painters have been playing with the power of the curtain for centuries. Contemporary realizations and interpretations of the theme are now presented in the exhibition Curtains. Opening and closing, showing and concealing. All the national and international artists on show were nominated for the 47th Art Prize of the Sparkasse Karlsruhe Cultural Foundation: A jury selected almost 100 nominees from around 850 submissions. The works can be seen at Europaplatz in Karlsruhe until March 27.

Susanna Storch, who is taking part in the Art.Salon artist program, was also nominated this year. She is showing a painting from her FACADES-series, for which she explored cities in Europe, North and South America. Storch photographs real observations, quiet stories that take place on balconies and behind windows, which she then transfers to the canvas. The painter is particularly interested in the complexity of windows: sometimes they provide insights into the rooms behind them, sometimes they reflect the outside world and thus cleverly conceal the secrets of the interiors. Storch's works have received international recognition. They have been shown at art fairs and gallery exhibitions in Bristol, London, Helsinki, Krakow, Venice and New Orleans, among others.Art.Salon

London, Tate Britain

It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.
