Chianciano Terme, Italy: 8th edition of the »Chianciano Biennale«

The Chianciano Biennale opens

Away from Paris, London and New York, the Chianciano Biennale has established itself as an important art event in a small Italian municipality. Around 150 artists from 40 nations will be exhibiting there this year from August 3 to 18.

August 01, 2024

The Chianciano Biennale was founded in 2009 with the vision of creating a vocal center for contemporary art outside of established structures and large cities. Its success has proven the organizers right, and the eighth edition will take place in 2024. Around 150 artists from 40 countries will be exhibiting in Chianciano Terme, a municipality around 50 km south-east of Siena. It offers them a special opportunity to present themselves to a new audience and local galleries and to make new contacts, which is one of the organizers' aims. The current Chianciano Biennale runs from August 3 to 18, 2024 and is a sister event to the London Art Biennale, which will take place again in 2025. Both events are open to the public free of charge.

The Chianciano Biennale awards various prizes, including 2,500 euros for the main prize and four times 1,000 euros for other finalists. There are also category prizes to be won for figurative art, abstract art and photography/digital art. A jury will also select five artists who will be offered the opportunity to exhibit artworks at next year's London Art Biennale without further application.Art.Salon

It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.
