The underground COEX Mall is located in South Korea's most affluent residential area, the Gangnam district of Seoul. This is where Frieze Seoul and Kiaf Art Seoul, two internationally renowned art fairs, will open on September 4. Kiaf Art Seoul has been taking place since 2002 and was South Korea's first international art fair at the time. The fair presents traditional and contemporary Korean art and has quickly become an established event in the art world. Kiaf ends on September 8. Contemporary Feminist Art in Asia is a central item on the program of this year's edition.

Frieze Seoul is only taking place for the third time, but has been considered one of the most important and most talked about art fairs in the world from the very beginning. Over 110 leading Asian galleries show current positions and Korean art history of the 20th century. The fair attracts visitors with a particularly wide-ranging program, including the Masterpieces Born in Times of War and Violence series with works by Jackson Pollock, Niki de Saint Phalle and Kim Whan-Ki. The organizers are also focusing on Asian women artists from the 1960s to the present day, including Park Youngsook (*1941), Juin Shieh (*1961), Park Kyung Ryul (*1979), Keem Jiyoung (*1987) and Citra Sasmita (*1990).Art.Salon

Klemens Pasoldt

Klemens Pasoldt's sculptures reflect the contradictions of human perception. With astonishing complexity, they escape our usual formal vocabulary. Smooth surfaces and sharp edges, closed volumes and open fractures combine in the most beautiful harmony to create a balance of opposites.
