Gina Parr is a painter and photographer. However, she does not pursue two different directions, rather her paintings inspire her photographic work and vice versa. British artist Gina Parr (*1957) delves deep into human nature, into complex emotions that describe not only joy or pain, but the gray areas in between. Parr's autobiographically inspired oeuvre has received numerous awards and nominations since the 1980s. Now some of her works can be seen as part of the ING Discerning Eye Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London from November 17 to 26. The event offers artists living in the UK a big stage and the opportunity to exhibit paintings for sale. The exhibits are available online until December 31.

At the same time, Gina Parr will be showing two works at the fair of the The Voice of a Woman (VOW) art festival on November 25. The one-day art fair takes place at the Royal Exchange in London and admission is free. November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls. Proceeds from sales will support selected charities.

Parr is taking part in the Art.Salon artist program. Further information on her paintings What we hold onto and what we can let go II and What we hold onto and what we can let go III, which will be shown at the VOW, can be found on her artist page.Art.Salon

London, Tate Britain

It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.
