Frieze Los Angeles with new location on Whilshire Boulevard
February marks a new edition of Frieze Los Angeles, an international art fair focused on contemporary art and the dynamic culture of Los Angeles. Frieze Week will also run concurrently with the fair, featuring a wide range of programs at galleries, museums and civic organizations, among others.
On February 17, the new edition of Frieze Los Angeles begins in Los Angeles - this time at 9900 Wilshire Boulevard, right next to the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The international art fair focuses mainly on contemporary art and celebrates the dynamic culture of Los Angeles as well as its global contribution to the visual arts. As a result, more than 100 major galleries from L.A. and around the world will once again be represented in 2022. Launched in 2019, this year's event is directed by Christine Messineo and, despite its short existence, is already one of the leading international art fairs.
An essential section of Frieze Los Angeles is Focus LA, an area dedicated to galleries that are 15 years old or younger. Curated by Amanda Hunt (Director of Public Programs & Creative Practice, Lucas Museum of Narrative Art), 11 of the most important young, local galleries are showing there this year. In addition, Frieze Sculpture Beverly Hills will make its debut in the upcoming edition of the fair. This is a public art initiative that has already been realized in London and New York. It presents significant works by renowned artists in Beverly Gardens Park.
Frieze Los Angeles, which runs Feb. 17-20, 2022, is embedded in Frieze Week - a program filled with exhibitions and events throughout Los Angeles that begins as early as Feb. 14 and runs concurrently with the entire fair. It includes a wide range of events at galleries, museums, civic organizations and other artist-run spaces.
With the exhibition Hanns Kunitzberger: Likeness 2002-2005, the Hamburger Kunsthalle is presenting the multi-part work of the same name by the Austrian artist. The multi-layered, abstract paintings have a magnetic effect on viewers. The exhibition opens on November 29.
In a major exhibition with over 150 exhibits, the Tate Modern sheds light on the beginnings of optical, kinetic and digital art. From November 28, the works of numerous renowned artists will be on display in Electric Dreams: Art and Technology Before the Internet in London.
