November 04, 2023

Originally a painter, Alexandre Estrela turned to other media. Sound and video installations characterize his exhibition Flat Bells; it is about the relationship between man and machine. How are media perceived, how are they manipulated and what role does obsolescence play in technical devices? The Portuguese artist Estrela, who has been exhibiting internationally for over 20 years, is now a guest in New York for the first time with his questions that are central to the digital age. Flat Bells is a show at the Museum of Modern Art, inviting visitors to see, hear and think from 4 November 2023 to 7 January 2024.

Alexandre Estrela was born in 1971 in Lisbon, where he lives and works today. The artist studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York, among other places. Estrela's works are in the collections Fundación Museo de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Centre Pompidou in Paris and Collection Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, among others.Art.Salon

London, Tate Britain

It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.
