Questioning the reliability of vision: in her new works, artist Frauke Petersen uses sand to transform architectural photographs – images of reality – into flat reliefs that offer a variety of perceptual possibilities. Depending on the incidence of light and viewing angle, the rough sand lends the artworks different appearances and enables different interpretations. Sand, guided by wind and water, creates dynamic landscapes in nature – man presses it into rigid architectural forms. In Frauke Petersen's work, the invisible building material comes to the surface and playfully reveals the contrast between dynamism and tranquillity. Together with the artist Kristin Grothe, who works thematically similar in other techniques, Petersen is showing her works in the Lüth Gallery in Husum-Schobüll. The exhibition Kristin Grothe and Frauke Petersen. New Works can be seen there from September 8 to October 13.

Petersen, who is taking part in the Art.Salon artist program, initially worked as a garden and landscape architect and has been a freelance artist since 1998. In her studio in St. Peter-Ording, her birthplace, she investigates the numerous properties of sand. On her travels, she collects different colored sands, which, with their strong red or black tones, differ significantly from the colors we are familiar with. Petersen was awarded the Eiderstedt Rotary Club's Art and Culture Prize for her work in 2017.

In conjunction with the opening of the exhibition, a 104-page catalog of Petersen's works entitled Frauke Petersen. Rooms published by pictus verlag (ISBN 978-3-949674-15-0).Art.Salon

London, Tate Britain

It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.

Guido Klumpe

It is in the context of functional architecture in urban spaces that Guido Klumpe finds the motifs that he stages with his camera as the poetry of the profane. His picturesque images unfold an opulent effect with a reduced formal language, showing us the beauty of the moment in the flow of everyday life.
