Sharp lines and bright colors give form to the aura of places and spaces: In her paintings, artist Silke Bartsch combines elements of buildings, interiors and landscapes to create novel, impossible spatial environments. She creates a harmonious whole from clear contrasts, whereby the individual fragments remain recognizable. Her pictures dissect reality and are reminiscent of collages and geometric compositions. They offer points of reference to real objects, but prove to be the expression of a fantastic world that can concentrate the aura of an environment. This world is constantly changing and describes new perspectives of space and time. In addition to paintings, the exhibits also include Bartsch's linocut engravings, which are characterized by dark backgrounds. Thin, light engravings – lines and shapes – symbolize the light and the way out of the unknown. The vernissage for Bartsch's current solo exhibition The Outside Is Your Construction will take place on May 4 at 6:30 pm, and the artist will be on site. Her works from the last three years can be seen at the subjectobject gallery in Berlin until June 15.

Silke Bartsch, who is taking part in the Art.Salon artist program, studied architecture in Hanover and painting at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. In addition to painting, Bartsch works in the media of installation and experimental printing. She has presented her artworks in various national and international solo and group exhibitions as well as at art fairs such as the Positions Berlin Art Fair 2023. Bartsch also works as an art lecturer: In her Berlin studio in the courthouses, she offers art-analogous coaching.Art.Salon

London, Tate Britain

It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.
