Inscribed and signed: Zicaizi Yuan Mei, with two seals of the artist: Yuan Mei, Sui Yuan Lao Ren
Dated sixteenth day, sixth month, bingchen, first year of the Jiaqing era (1796)

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In October 2001 Christies in Hong Kong held the auction FINE CLASSICAL CHINESE PAINTINGS AND CALLIGRAPHY, which included the work Couplet In Clerical Script Calligraphy by Yuan Mei. Here, the upper estimate of HKD 30,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for HKD 30,550.00 (€ 4,355.07). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Yuan Mei achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Letters in March 2016 with an auction result of USD 212,500.00 (€ 186,567.16).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Oktober 2001 führte Christies in Hong Kong die Auktion FINE CLASSICAL CHINESE PAINTINGS AND CALLIGRAPHY durch, in der auch die Arbeit Couplet In Clerical Script Calligraphy von Yuan Mei zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von HKD 30.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für HKD 30.550,00 (€ 4.355,07) einen neuen Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Yuan Mei erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Letters im März 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 212.500,00 (€ 186.567,16).
