Artwork auctioned at 11 times the upper estimate price
The work Correspondence with Ye Yungu by Yi Bingshou was worth HKD 2,142,000.00 (€ 256,687.61) to a buyer in December last year. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 180,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Yi Bingshou; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Poems In Kaishu sold at auction in April 2015 with the realized price of HKD 3,200,000.00 (€ 369,826.20).
