Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Calligraphy Couplet In Clerical Script by Yi Bingshou was auctioned at Sothebys in Hong Kong in April 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of HKD 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for HKD 937,500.00 (€ 110,658.56). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Yi Bingshou - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Poems In Kaishu, which sold at auction in April 2015 for HKD 3,200,000.00 (€ 369,826.20).
