A top price for Yao Mengqi
When the work Eleven-Character Couplet In Clerical Script by Yao Mengqi was auctioned at China Guardian in Hong Kong in October 2017, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 50,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at HKD 153,400.00 (€ 16,883.48). This high result makes Eleven-Character Couplet In Clerical Script the most expensive artwork by Yao Mengqi that we have observed at auctions so far.
