This artwork by Xavier Mellery achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in April 2001. In the 19TH CENTURY EUROPEAN ART auction, the work Feeding the cats sold for GBP 5,640.00 (€ 9,092.39) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Xavier Mellery; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Les fiancés de Marken en costumes d'apparat sold at auction in June 2015 with the realized price of EUR 10,625.00.
