This artwork by William Williams achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2000. In the British Pictures 1500-1850 auction, the work Courtship; and Matrimony sold for GBP 18,800.00 (€ 29,948.23) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 10,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William Williams; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Iron bridge at Colebrookdale sold at auction in December last year with the realized price of GBP 45,660.00 (€ 51,545.69).
