Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Cattle By A River by William Mellor was sold in the British & Continental Paintings auction at Sothebys in London in October 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,250.00 (€ 6,103.28) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Mellor - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Grasmere Lake from Loughrigg, Westmoreland, which sold at auction in May 2002 for GBP 10,575.00 (€ 16,560.59).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Cattle By A River von William Mellor wurde im Oktober 2007 in der Auktion British & Continental Paintings bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 4.250,00 (€ 6.103,28) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von William Mellor mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Grasmere Lake from Loughrigg, Westmoreland beobachtet, die im Mai 2002 für GBP 10.575,00 (€ 16.560,59) versteigert wurde.
