Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Stormy Seas With Fishing Boats; Stormy Seas With A Castle Beyond by William McAlpine was sold in the British & Continental Pictures including Sporting and Marine Paintings auction at Sothebys in Olympia in July 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 2,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,200.00 (€ 1,782.28) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William McAlpine - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Men-o-war returning from battle, which sold at auction in March 2001 for GBP 3,290.00 (€ 5,308.74).
