Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by William James could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in January 2012 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Important Old Master Paintings and Sculpture auction, the work The Grand Canal From Palazzo Balbi To The Rialto Bridge changed hands for USD 74,500.00 (€ 57,075.00) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William James - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Bucintoro Returning To The Molo On Ascension Day, Venice, which sold at auction in April 2008 for USD 325,000.00 (€ 208,761.56).
