Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by William Huggins achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2009. In the Victorian and British Impressionist Pictures including Drawings and Watercolours auction, the work The Village Champion sold for GBP 2,500.00 (€ 2,735.93) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Huggins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Two leopards in January 2011 with an auction result of USD 458,500.00 (€ 334,305.50).
