Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Steamer Francon Approaching The South Stack Lighthouse by William Howard Yorke was sold in the Maritime Pictures auction at Christies in London in May 2006. The price achieved of GBP 4,800.00 (€ 7,006.44) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Howard Yorke - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The American clipper Caravan rendering assistance to a British full-rigger in mid-Atlantic, which sold at auction in July 2003 for USD 23,900.00 (€ 19,415.11).
