Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The American Clipper Ship Raphael by William Howard Yorke was sold in the The American Scene including Important Photographs from the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation auction at Sothebys in New York in May last year. The price achieved of USD 4,032.00 (€ 3,757.34) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by William Howard Yorke have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The American clipper Caravan rendering assistance to a British full-rigger in mid-Atlantic in July 2003 with an auction result of USD 23,900.00 (€ 19,415.11).
