Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2003 a collector was able to acquire the work The bookworm by William Hemsley for GBP 293.75 (€ 449.91). This price was achieved in the auction British and Continental Pictures and Works on Paper at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 300.00 – 400.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hemsley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Sunday Morning in June 2000 with an auction result of GBP 12,925.00 (€ 20,487.72).
