eight engravings with hand-coloring, 1794-1817, on laid and wove papers, published by William Hayes and family, London, all with margins, all with very pale light- staining and surface soiling to varying degrees, minor creasing mostly along the platemarks of several plates, occasional pale foxing and a few pressure marks on several plates, Bustard Female with stray hand-coloring within the text, otherwise all apparently in good condition, in faux-gilt frames with a plumed design, not examined out of the frames

The work Ornithological Studies, from Hayes' Portraits: Eight Plates by William Hayes was sold in the The House Sale auction at Christies in New York in March 2003. It achieved a price of USD 4,182.50 (€ 3,837.16), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 39%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hayes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Drawings of birds, sixty original watercolours, 1791-1792 in May last year with an auction result of GBP 37,800.00 (€ 44,468.10).

Die Arbeit Ornithological Studies, from Hayes' Portraits: Eight Plates von William Hayes wurde im März 2003 in der Auktion The House Sale bei Christies in New York versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 4.182,50 (€ 3.837,16) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 39%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Hayes erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Drawings of birds, sixty original watercolours, 1791-1792 im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 37.800,00 (€ 44.468,10).
