Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%

This artwork by William Hadd McElcheran achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Toronto in December 2009. In the Important Canadian Art auction, the work The Newspaper sold for CAD 19,200.00 (€ 12,805.81) - well above the upper estimate of CAD 8,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William Hadd McElcheran; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Three Businessmen sold at auction in November 2011 with the realized price of CAD 30,000.00 (€ 21,862.78).

Dieses Kunstwerk von William Hadd McElcheran erzielte im Dezember 2009 bei Sothebys in Toronto einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Important Canadian Art wurde die Arbeit The Newspaper für CAD 19.200,00 (€ 12.805,81) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von CAD 8.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von William Hadd McElcheran; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Three Businessmen im November 2011 mit dem Hammerpreis von CAD 30.000,00 (€ 21.862,78).
