Despite a disappointment, a good price for William Crosby
In July 2002 a collector was able to acquire the work Tintern Abbey at sunset; and Figures resting in a tranquil river landscape by William Crosby for GBP 1,175.00 (€ 1,874.17). This price was achieved in the auction British and Continental Pictures at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00 set by the auction house. Despite this disappointing result, Tintern Abbey at sunset; and Figures resting in a tranquil river landscape is the most expensive artwork by William Crosby that we have observed at auction so far.
