Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In May 2005 Christies in London held the auction MARITIME PICTURES, which included the work A topsail ketch on the Clyde sailing past the Cloch Lighthouse by William Clark of Greenock. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 5,400.00 (€ 7,972.09). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Clark of Greenock - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The three-masted barque Akbar arriving off Port Louis, Mauritius, which sold at auction in November 2003 for GBP 17,625.00 (€ 25,300.95).
