Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by William Alfred Gibson achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2007. In the The Scottish Sale auction, the work A figure on a river bank with cottages beyond; and A figure on a riverside track sold for GBP 6,600.00 (€ 9,712.35) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William Alfred Gibson; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Sands of Morar sold at auction in March 2002 with the realized price of GBP 7,050.00 (€ 11,524.89).
