Auction result misses estimated price range
In August 2020 a collector was able to acquire the work Clipper Ship Three Brothers (ex-Vanderbilt) by William Alexander Coulter for USD 16,325.00 (€ 13,677.11). This price was achieved in the auction California and Western Art at Bonhams in Los Angeles and was even below the estimate range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00 set by the auction house. Other works by William Alexander Coulter have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in March 2020 by the work Schooner J.M. Colman off the Farallon Islands 28 x 44in at USD 17,575.00 (€ 15,935.26).
