Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Said To Be 'Perari Di Cremona', Half-Length, Wearing A High-Collared Black Coat With White Cuffs And Collar, Holding A Pair Of Gloves, Standing Before A Green Curtain by Willem Key was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2015. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 87,500.00 (€ 118,820.79) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Willem Key - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Saint Jerome, which sold at auction in May 2005 for USD 385,600.00 (€ 312,252.00).
