Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Night School, After Gerard Dou by Willem Joseph Laquy was sold in the Old Master Drawings auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 3,000.00 – 4,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 3,250.00 (€ 2,837.44) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Willem Joseph Laquy - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work An Allegory of Painting; and An Allegory of Sculpture, which sold at auction in April 2010 for EUR 8,750.00.
