Auction result misses estimated price range
In July 2003 a collector was able to acquire the work Looking out to sea from the fortress by Willem Anthonie van Deventer for EUR 478.00. This price was achieved in the auction PICTURES, WATERCOLOURS AND DRAWINGS at Christies in Amsterdam and was even below the estimate range of EUR 500.00 – 700.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem Anthonie van Deventer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shipping on a calm estuary in April 2000 with an auction result of GBP 42,300.00 (€ 72,415.89).
