Auction result misses estimated price range
In May 2004 a collector was able to acquire the work The Booth Line vessel Hildebrand at Iquitos Mole (illustrated); The Booth Line vessel Hildebrand at anchor off Madeira (illustrated); The Booth Line vessel Hildebrand at anchor at Manaus; and The Booth Line vessel Hubert off the coast at Anglesey by Walter Thomas for GBP 1,195.00 (€ 1,792.94). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime Pictures at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Walter Thomas - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Cunard, Boston To Europe, which sold at auction in April 2012 for GBP 5,000.00 (€ 6,132.36).
