Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work Childerditch Common, Near Brentwood In Essex by Walter James Steggles was worth GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,324.96) to a buyer in November 2008. This price was achieved in the auction A GREAT BRITISH COLLECTION: The pictures collected by Sir David and Lady Scott, sold to benefit the Finnis Scott Foundation at Sothebys in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 600.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Walter James Steggles; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Canal, Mile End sold at auction in July 2013 with the realized price of GBP 5,250.00 (€ 5,999.04).
