Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Fairy Tale by Walter Firle was sold in the Old Master & 19th Century European Art, Including Property from The Forbes Collection: The Panorama of Champigny auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2012. The price achieved of USD 6,250.00 (€ 4,788.17) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Walter Firle - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Telling sweet stories, which sold at auction in October 2005 for EUR 9,600.00.
