Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2010 Christies in London held the auction Christie's Interiors, which included the work Three illustrations for Arthur Kelly's The Rosebud and Other Tales - 'The Lump of Coal' by Walter Crane. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,375.00 (€ 5,074.99) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Walter Crane achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Fate of Persephone that fair field Of Enna, where Proserpine, gathering flowers, Herself a fairer flower, by gloomy Dis Was gathered. (Paradise Lost, Book IV, lines 268-71) in June 2002 with an auction result of GBP 424,650.00 (€ 656,837.38).
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Fate of Persephone that fair field Of Enna, where Proserpine, gathering flowers, Herself a fairer flower, by gloomy Dis Was gathered. (Paradise Lost, Book IV, lines 268-71) im Juni 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 424.650,00 (€ 656.837,38).
