Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2020 Christies in London held the auction The Joe Setton Collection: from Pre-Raphaelites to Last Romantics, which included the work The Swan Maidens by Walter Crane. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 150,000.00 – 250,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 175,000.00 (€ 195,490.60) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Walter Crane - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Fate of Persephone that fair field Of Enna, where Proserpine, gathering flowers, Herself a fairer flower, by gloomy Dis Was gathered. (Paradise Lost, Book IV, lines 268-71), which sold at auction in June 2002 for GBP 424,650.00 (€ 656,837.38).
The Fate of Persephone that fair field Of Enna, where Proserpine, gathering flowers, Herself a fairer flower, by gloomy Dis Was gathered. (Paradise Lost, Book IV, lines 268-71) beobachtet, die im Juni 2002 für GBP 424.650,00 (€ 656.837,38) versteigert wurde.
