Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A groom preparing a carriage outside stables; and A carriage waiting at the steps of a house by William Henry Wheelwright was sold in the SPORTING ART AND DOGS auction at Christies in London in November 2003. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 7,520.00 (€ 10,795.07) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Henry Wheelwright - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work British The Sporting Life: 12 Paintings Mounted As A Four Fold Screen Variously Depicting Sporting Pursuits, which sold at auction in November 2007 for USD 55,000.00 (€ 37,445.53).
