In December 2012 Christies in New York held the auction The National Geographic Collection: The Art of Exploration, which included the work Peerless Nepal, A Naturalist's Paradise, 1949 by Volkmar Wentzel. The »bidding war« ended at USD 2,000.00 (€ 1,516.76), 67% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Volkmar Wentzel - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Atlantic City, NJ, 1958, which sold at auction in December 2012 for USD 5,625.00 (€ 4,265.89).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 67 % übertroffen
Im Dezember 2012 führte Christies in New York die Auktion The National Geographic Collection: The Art of Exploration durch, in der auch die Arbeit Peerless Nepal, A Naturalist's Paradise, 1949 von Volkmar Wentzel zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 2.000,00 (€ 1.516,76) und damit 67% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Volkmar Wentzel mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Atlantic City, NJ, 1958 beobachtet, die im Dezember 2012 für USD 5.625,00 (€ 4.265,89) versteigert wurde.
