In November 2006 Christies in London held the auction Maritime & Naval Battles (Pictures), which included the work Grand Harbour, Valetta, Malta (Illustrated); And Fishing Boats Off Valetta Harbour, Malta by Vincenzo d'Esposito. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 780.00 (€ 1,158.32), 56% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Vincenzo d'Esposito; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A view of Valletta Harbour sold at auction in March last year with the realized price of GBP 1,785.00 (€ 2,116.32).
