From the surimono series Suru ichi [First of a Set of Companions] commissioned by the Taikogawa poetry club, an Oharame wood cutter and a child resting beside an ox, the poem reads
Senkin no This beautiful spring day
haru no atai ya is more precious than a thousand pieces of gold
hiku ushi no I wish that my child when he grows up
chikara kurabe yo will be strong
tokai no kodakara and fight like an ox
signed Honcho Kunimaru hitsu, seal Honcho, very good impression, colours and condition

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Unknown by Utagawa Kunimaru was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,625.00 (€ 2,275.42) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Utagawa Kunimaru - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Unknown, which sold at auction in May this year for GBP 6,144.00 (€ 7,148.58).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Unknown von Utagawa Kunimaru kam im November 2007 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 1.500,00 – 2.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 1.625,00 (€ 2.275,42) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Utagawa Kunimaru mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Unknown beobachtet, die im Mai diesen Jahres für GBP 6.144,00 (€ 7.148,58) versteigert wurde.
