The work A design celebrating the arrival from France of the Cirque Soullier (slightly mis-spelt here) which drew huge crowds in Yokohama in August 1871 and later in the same year in Tokyo by Utagawa Hiroshige III was sold in the Japanese Art & Design auction at Christies in London in June 2003. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 800.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 836.50 (€ 1,202.10). Admittedly, works by Utagawa Hiroshige III have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Scenes of Tokyo and views of Mount Fuji in December 2021 with an auction result of GBP 5,670.00 (€ 6,763.12).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit A design celebrating the arrival from France of the Cirque Soullier (slightly mis-spelt here) which drew huge crowds in Yokohama in August 1871 and later in the same year in Tokyo von Utagawa Hiroshige III wurde im Juni 2003 in der Auktion Japanese Art & Design bei Christies in London versteigert. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 800,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 836,50 (€ 1.202,10) einen neuen Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Utagawa Hiroshige III auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Scenes of Tokyo and views of Mount Fuji im Dezember 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.670,00 (€ 6.763,12).
