Description
Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949), a woodblock print
in sumi and colour on paper depicting a nocturnal scene with a pagoda in a tree strewn garden beneath a full moon -- 15in. x 97/8in. (38cms x 25cms), signed and sealee; and Toshi Yoshida, four prints in sumi and colour depicting nocturnal river and street scenes, a view of figures crossing a bridge before a large wisteria tree and boats before storehouses lining a riverbank -- 6½in. x 9½in. (16.5cms x 24cms), pencil signed, framed and glazed.

This artwork by Tsuchiya Koitsu achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in June 2000. In the Oriental Paintings and Prints auction, the work a woodblock print sold for GBP 587.50 (€ 931.26) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 300.00. Admittedly, works by Tsuchiya Koitsu have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Unknown in September last year with an auction result of USD 6,375.00 (€ 6,516.41).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 96 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Tsuchiya Koitsu erzielte im Juni 2000 bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Oriental Paintings and Prints wurde die Arbeit a woodblock print für GBP 587,50 (€ 931,26) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 300,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Tsuchiya Koitsu auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Unknown im September letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 6.375,00 (€ 6.516,41).
