This artwork by Tito Lessi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in June 2010. In the 19th Century European Paintings Including German, Austrian and Central European Paintings, The Orientalist Sale, Spanish Painting and the Scandinavian Sale auction, the work Italian the Bibliophiles sold for GBP 17,500.00 (€ 21,281.63) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 10,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Tito Lessi; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Toscanelli et les ambassadeurs de Portugal sold at auction in November 2001 with the realized price of GBP 21,150.00 (€ 33,656.31).
