Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2006 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Pictures, which included the work Frigates By Moonlight In Plymouth Sound (One Illustrated) by Timothy Franklin Ross Thompson. The price achieved of GBP 3,600.00 (€ 5,254.83) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 4,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Timothy Franklin Ross Thompson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The opium trader Speculation, the P. & O. steamer Canton, the U.S. clipper Sea Serpent and Perry's U.S. Squadron lying off Hong Kong, which sold at auction in November 2011 for GBP 11,250.00 (€ 13,133.22).
